Evil Dead: A Fistful Of Boomstick

Vis were contracted to do this game for THQ, and we had a very tight 12 month schedule (2002) to produce it. The game used the State Of Emergency game engine thus allowing hordes of deadites on the screen at once. The timescale limited the number of levels we could do and as a result it was sensibly decided to release the game at half price. The game when released had its critics but was generally regarded as being better than the previous Evil Dead title even if it did mostly appeal to fans of Sam Raimi’s films. Of course Bruce Campbell voices Ash and the game has several great one-liners!
I worked as the VFX artist on Evil Dead, my first role as a VFX artist. I am a fan of the films and I tried to make the effects in keeping with the style of the films, a little rough but with as much gore and blood as possible. Most of the rest of the VFX involved various magic spells as well as fires and flashes for the various weaponry (including a gatling gun strapped onto Ash’s right arm!)
